I tested by putting dw_1.GroupCalc() in a button on the window called "post sort" and
it worked!. Thank you for your help!
However, now have another question... I couldn't figure out where that line should
really be in script - I envoke the sort from the menu and the menu doesn't recognize
dw_1. I'd like to do this right, so was wondering which event you recommend I put
this in?

After your sort do a GroupCalc() on the datawindow.
