It is a simple character, tab-delimited file of whatever you typed in each
field for your query.
Are you sure that your date query is working, regardless of whether you
save/load it? Dates can have special considerations. Try working with
just a simple character field to start with.
Also, after you "load", you still have to "retrieve".

This sounds fishy, because didn't you say that the QueryMode was already
working for your DW? Does your 'window' (or tab/dw uos equivalent) have
two "of_SetQueryMode"s now? Is there more than one DW in your 'window'?
When I typed my #2 I was thinking these thoughts.
