Hi, Jill
Check out "I would like to learn PFC. Where Do I start?"
http://www.pfccheatsheet.com/start.htm
It not only covers PFC books http://www.pfccheatsheet.com/pbbooks.htm , but
it also covers other avenues for learning PFC, many for free. Choose what
works for you...
One of my personal favorites there that I recommend for those of you who
are just getting started with the PFC - is the Steve Benfield PFC CD (plus
200+ page resource manual). There's simply nothing else like this CD!
If you like to learn tutorial style, in addition to the PFC User's Guide
Tutorial (on the Sybase CD Doc), there is a good PFC tutorial book by Bob
Hendry...
If you prefer live classes, DO check out the Sybase PFC class. It is
excellent...
And, of course, no serious PFC programmer could do without the Borg Bible
by his/her side <bg>... Honest - In fact, Jill, this book here has exactly
what you are looking for (and so much more)... It describes each PFC
service, very well, in depth - doing a good job from high level to low
level - describing just right what each service is and how to use each - in
a very organized fashion - in a very easy to understand way... I'm sure
you'll like it, too.

In addition, be sure to learn all about pfc_w_master...

Oh, and by the way, there was also a wonderful PBDJ article -
in the recent July'99 issue (Volume: 6 Issue: 7) - by Brian Grimm -
entitled "PFC Training: Which is the Best Way?"
Have fun,
~Sharon
