Are your tabpage objects inherited from u_tabpage?

Here is a line that works for me:

  this.OpenTab(iu_addedtabs[ll_tab], ls_tabClass, 0)

where ls_tabClass is the class of the UO, something like
"u_tabpg_documentation"
and iu_addedTabs is an array of u_tabpg 's that sits on the tab control (5.x
necessity, I think it's not so necessary in 7)
