I kinda got lost...
Here's how I interpret your question... if that's wrong, my answer might not
fit... let me know.
You have three tables, table1, table2 and table3. Table3 is a notes field.
Not all combination of table1 and table2 records have a corresponding table3
record so you use an outer join. You want to be able to add a new table3
record if someone types in a notes field.
My solution:
Create the datawindow and set table3 as your update. In the datawindow
itemChanged event for the note column, set the key values for table3 based
on the values from table1 (or table2). Then the update should insert (or
update) only table3.
Let me know how that works.
