Group video viewing

Group video viewing experiment:

I've been frequently asked about ways for group viewing with
associated text chat for videos. Because of the obvious
synchronization issues that arise when ad-supported videos are being
viewed by at least one participant, I have not spent much time
considering the possibilities.

However, I see that the "Teleparty" browser extension seems to have
implemented what seem like reasonable methodologies for this, by
delaying everyone's videos when anyone is seeing an ad, and keeping
everyone in synchronization.

I am curious how well this functions in practice. The extension is
widely considered to be safe -- IF you download the real one and not a
fake one, which has been an issue. Also, like so many extensions, it
by default wants full read/write access to all sites (ugh), but this
can be restricted in the extension settings.

If anyone wants to participate in an experiment using this system,
please let me know by email. I see various potential serious and/or
entertaining uses for this concept. Thanks.
