NBC: U.S. Will Require Drones to Be Registered

The federal government will announce a new plan requiring anyone
buying a drone to register the device with the U.S. Department
of Transportation, NBC news has learned.

If this report is true, the concept is preposterous. The federal
government is going to register toy and model aircraft? There's no
federal registration for cars, motorcycles, or even GUNS. And these
aircraft can be assembled from commodity parts, often imported directly
from overseas, and run with open source firmware. Hoping this report is
false, because otherwise, the FAA and/or Dept. of Transportation have
lost their minds.
