New Google+ community to discuss hobbyist aircraft freedoms including the rights of "drone" owners to build and fly
https://plus.google.com/communities/114649129495822120904 For generations, hobby aircraft enthusiasts have flown here in the U.S.A. with virtually no problems and virtually no government interference. But now, politicians and regulators -- driven by the desire to score political points through terrorism/security/privacy hysteria and law enforcement desires for exclusive access these technologies -- are pushing for massive new regulatory regimes to limit, register, and control hobby drone and other hobbyist flying devices. One of the worst mistakes hobbyists made was to start referring to many of these hobby flyers as drones, since this caused them to be associated with the government's remote-controlled aerial murder machines in the public's mind. Now the hobby will almost certainly be facing an increasing array of unreasonable restrictions, ultimately likely to limit the ability of hobbyists to build their own flyers from commodity parts and to run widely available open source flight control firmware. While the increase in interest for this hobby poses some genuine new issues for consideration, government interference of the types apparently now being contemplated are not justifiable. This new Google+ community will discuss these issues in detail and formulate plans to protect our associated freedoms to fly.
