Bonus off-topic item: Radioactive items stolen from Los Alamos National Lab

http://www.abqjournal.com/664275

Police obtained a state search warrant for a vehicle
and, on Oct. 7, the lab's radiological assistance program
surveyed the vehicle's interior and exterior. The survey found
contamination on the steering wheel, gear shift and passenger
door that registered 600 to 1,000 DPMs, or disintegrations per
minute, a measurement of the amount of energy emitted from a
contaminated area. The DOE release limit standard is 20 DPM,
according to the affidavit. The bandsaw registered even higher
        - approximately 100,000 DPM, it says.

Basically, people with access to the areas are grabbing contaminated
tools and such from Los Alamos Technical Area 54 and Area G, and taking
them home to keep and use. How does this match up with National Labs'
long-standing claims that it is impossible to exit these areas without
radiation screening? This is the kind of story that definitely gives you
a really "warm" feeling about government competence -- or rather, a
"hot" feeling.
