Word to the wise: Video of L.A. "hoverboard" fire

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/this-is-the-one-hoverboard-explosion-you-must-see_5686d650e4b014efe0da932d

We already know hoverboards can catch fire. But this new
video of an incident in Los Angeles brings it home. It was the
first known hoverboard explosion in the city, the L.A. Fire
Department told the Los Angeles Times, and it was a doozy.

Here in L.A. Like I say, LIPO (lithium-ion polymer) batteries "want to
kill you." In fact, these events usually occur for one of two reasons,
either physical damage to the batteries, or (the most common) improper
charging from crude charging systems. It is a rash of these types of
fires specific to this flood of badly built imported "hoverboards" that
have caused most airlines to ban them completely from their planes, and
caused Amazon to drop them from most of their listings. There are a
couple of reputable brands, but by and large these devices cannot be
considered safe at this point -- and that doesn't include falling off and
cracking your skull.
