A "few" words about "Lindybeige" on YouTube

Sometime recently -- I'm not sure exactly when, the magic YouTube
recommendation engine surfaced the "Lindybeige" channel to me:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9pgQfOXRsp4UKrI8q0zjXQ

This channel (currently around 1.12 million subs) is operated by
Nikolas Lloyd, aka Lindybeige or Lloyd, based I believe in Newcastle,
England. His videos on a wide range of historical topics reach back at
least to 4:3 aspect ratio days in 2011 (perhaps further), and new ones
continue to appear. While he reportedly has a degree in archeology, he
does not represent himself as an expert on anything, and various
arguing can be found around the Web about the accuracy or inaccuracy
of his videos on any given topic or point.

That said, I'm finding his videos to be immensely entertaining, to the
point that I often stop whatever else I'm doing and give them my full
attention. Most of his videos have an identical, ultra-simplistic
presentation style. He simply stands there in front of the camera
against a simple background, and talks. The vast majority of his videos
are single continuous takes(!), like a live lecture. No breaks. No
annoying jump cuts. And while some are fairly short, others approach an
hour, or even two hours (e.g., a video on Roman gladiatorial games). Any
corrections he usually pops on the screen before uploading.

He is very entertaining. Even if he is sometimes wrong on specific
historical points or interpretations (e.g., about specific battles or
weaponry), I wish I could have had a lecturer like him in my school
days. He even manages to make his sponsorships flow right into his
"lectures" without a break, usually with humor. In one video, he even
discussed criticisms he had received about sponsoring a commercial VPN
that was currently his sponsor -- which I found quite amusing.

People used to the "slam, bam, here's more jump cuts man" style of so
many YouTube creators today may find his style boring. I find it
refreshing. You might too.
