YouTube's downloading test
YouTube has launched a test for a month or so (limited to Premium subs
I believe) to permit desktop video downloading, apparently to a
special area reserved by the YT desktop app. It seems to work quite
well, though it does open up some questions. One of course is what
happens to downloaded videos that are subject to takedowns on the YT
site itself. There's a notice that downloaded videos are saved so
long as there is an Internet connection at least once a month. This
suggests that videos subject to takedown would be deleted from
downloads at some point (if not immediately, then at the next
connection). That's my guess, anyway.
