[Utterly Disastrous Idea] Facebook, Google and other tech firms must
verify identities under proposed UK law
One of the most dangerous, brain-damaged, likely to cause vast harm
proposals ever to see the light of day. Also, note the part about
filtering "harmful but legal" content. Hell, in Florida that would mean
saying the word "gay"!
This is something we'd expect from China. Or Russia. Or North Korea. Or
maybe Florida or Texas! So many reasons why this proposal is a disaster
that I won't even try to start on the list here. But as I've warned many
times, this is how governments want to gain total control of the
Internet: its content AND its users. And waving the "protect the
children" flag is a time-honored technique of tyrants. -L
