Why Was Don Rickles Funny?
For the least few days a bunch of the late Don Rickles' many
appearances on David Letterman have been surfacing. Rickles was a
master of a singular kind of insult humor, utterly politically
incorrect over the entire course of his very long career. And yet ...
and yet ... it's still funny.
Why? I never really thought about this in any depth before. And it turns
out, not surprisingly, that his unique humor has been the subject of
considerable analysis.
