Meta Feels the Downturn Burn, Slashes Hiring by 30%
The leaked memo described in the article confirms what I've been
thinking. Yes, there's a downturn, but not all Big Tech companies are
being affected equally. Meta/Facebook are now in a precarious position
that would be hard to imagine even a few years ago. Without getting
too metaphysical, there's bad karma surrounding that place now. And
while I think their Oculus headsets are absolute wonders and that VR
is crucial to the future, I don't see how their big bet on the
"Metaverse" can fly anywhere near the way they seem to be hoping, and
I suspect it's going to be a money pit without the kind of payoff
they'd need to justify it on a practical time line. -L
