Disney continues trying to bury its cinematic marvel, "Song of the South"

It's this kind of broad brush painting that feeds actual racism and nutty complaints of "wokeness." Here we have an article talking about how Disney wants to "rebrand" Splash Mountain away from their 1946 wonder "Song of the South" -- buying into the complains of the film being too "racist" to view or be connected with in the 21st century.

That the film presents black culture in stereotypical manners is
undeniable, but the source material -- the seven "Uncle Remus" books --
were a collection of African American folktales compiled by Joel
Chandler Harris starting in 1881. They were written specifically to illuminate the struggles of blacks on plantations during that period.

Technically, the film is a marvel. Featuring among the first use of
mixed animation live action, its three-strip Technicolor production is
gorgeous. It's main song -- "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" -- which you'll note
Disney still uses and seems not to be moving to make vanish, perhaps
because most people don't know it comes from the film, won the Academy
Award for Best Original Song.

That the film needs to be viewed in proper context is certainly true,
but the hate spewed against it -- and Disney's fears about it -- are not
warranted, and I urge everyone to view it if they can. Disney doesn't
distribute it and they don't have it on Disney+ (though you can there
see the fascinating films starting Nazi Wernher von Braun about space
travel, with his Nazi mass death machines history carefully papered
over). However, Google is your friend, and the film is actually not
difficult to view.

Oh yes, that article:
