Google to end Gmail political spam bypass program

In a court filing, Google has said it will (at the end of this month)
terminate their program (begun last summer) that permitted political
groups to sign up for their political emails to bypass Gmail spam
filters. Apparently more than 100 committees from both parties signed
up, but the RNC (Republican National Committee), which has a meritless
lawsuit in progress against Google relating to RNC's spam, did not join.

As you may recall, the public comments on Google's program when it
was proposed were overwhelmingly negative, and in a series of posts
at the time I called it both ill-advised and doomed. -L
