Google Issues article from 14(!) years ago, still relevant today

I was just reminded (thanks!) of this article in "Techdirt" from
almost exactly 14 (egads, 14?) years ago regarding my proposals for a
Google Ombudsman. It could be argued that in significant ways this
situation is far more critical now. (14 years ... ouch).
Sidenote: I was once sitting in the office of a Google exec at Mountain
View, pushing my oft-quoted concept for a Google Ombudsman. He pushed
back but asked if I was volunteering for the job. Given the totality of
my situation at the time, I said no. I've often wondered what would have
happened if I'd said yes. I really should have. -L
