TikTok hysteria

By the way, since I'm asked about this so much, I'll just say this
briefly here. I think that 99% of the hysteria about TikTok, including
from both political parties, DOD, state governments, Biden, Trump, and
all the rest of them (including in other Western countries), is
nonsense.

I think the new "sell TikTok to an American firm" demands are indeed
just a quick way to try get such valuable assets into the U.S. coffer.

As with the somewhat similar hysterial about China's DJI, I don't
believe that China has resorted to using these obvious and inspectable
platforms for surveillance and espionage. They have plenty of other
means. As does the West.

The data leakage stories I've seen about TikTok so far are essentially
on par with the kinds of sloppy (not nefarious) behavior that we seem
to hear about from U.S. firms almost every day.

There are plenty of reasons to be wary of China. I don't feel that TikTok
is one of them. -L
