Initial impressions of Bluesky (BS)
I now have access to Bluesky (BS). My initial impression of Bluesky is
that it already has a significant amount of somewhat problematic and
chaotic content of the sort I avoided on Twitter. This may be a
consequence of its significant number of users already, but it feels
very Twitter-like in a notably negative way.
So my initial impression as a new user is not positive regarding
content. Again, seems to be much like the content aspects of Twitter I
mostly don't like. Technically it seems OK for now, but no post editing
I can see, which is a big minus.
One very positive aspect, apart from my growing list of criticisms: Its
onboarding process is simple, fast, and straightforward, and that alone
gives it an enormous boost for most people.
Something else I've immediately seen on Bluesky. Many users seem to feel
it necessary to routinely throw obscenities into their ordinary posts,
maybe because other users are doing it. I'm not a prude, but I consider
this a negative signal for the platform.
As I've already noted, their "moderation" model seems highly
problematic, and the probability of the platform attracting all sorts of
horrific content seems very high, with accompanying likely regulatory
compliance problems.
