I am not a Google hater
I've been writing a lot over the last few days that has been extremely
critical of Google's decision to permit dangerous U.S. election
denial videos to return to YouTube. I won't rehash the specifics
here, you no doubt know them all too well by now, other than to say
that I am calling for a reversal of this decision and that I consider
this to be of paramount importance, especially right now.
I still consider myself to be a friend of Google. There are great
people there (it's people that matter most at any firm) and Google
remains a incredibly important company that serves billions of
persons.
However, I do strongly feel that Google has been making a series of
very poor decisions lately, and I will continue to call these out as
appropriate.
I am not a Google hater. I want Google to succeed, and I want their
users and the public at large to be confident that Google has their
interests at heart as well as Google's own corporate concerns.
We are in a very complex and hazardous political, competitive, and
social environment, and I would not assert that navigating this is
simple or straightforward for any firm.
But Google does have the resources to do this ethically and
responsibly -- IF its executives choose to do so. -L
