The Nescient Dead

The term "ND" -- for "nescient dead" -- has been used to describe in
folklore the state of being deceased but not realizing or accepting
it. Not a vampire. Not a zombie. Not a ghost. But a human being who
has died but continues to walk the earth -- gradually decaying in the
process -- because they cannot come to terms with the reality of
death. In some cases, legends say that individuals could exist in this
state for considerable periods of time, while the stench of their
decomposition grows ever stronger and persons around them are
gradually driven away by the horror of their presence.

Much the same kind of situation can occur with businesses as well.
They are on the path to oblivion, but can't accept that fact, even as
it's ever more obvious to their users and customers increasingly
seeking an exit.

So it could be argued goes Twitter under Musk, with a rebrand as X
merely a rickety fruit stand hastily built on the side of a desert
road leading to nowhere, with flies and maggots already taking up
residence in the putrefying rot. -L
