What's really going on with TV and streaming

The bottom line on all this stuff is that streaming has turned into an
albatross around the neck of most firms who thought it would be a cash
cow for their content, and they're now desperately trying to resurrect
the oh so hated cable TV model that drove the cord cutters away.

So streaming prices rising rapidly, introduction and emphasis on
ad-filled options instead of ad-free, and the aggregators like
YouTube TV (and to some extent Sling, for example) are raising their
prices rapidly.

YouTube TV is a particular offender, with pricing now similar to cable
TV packages, and loads of included channels that most people have no
interest in at all. This is not wholly Google's fault, but it shows
the power of the content firms to require these kinds of hellish
bundles.

Everything old is new again.
