The Google layoffs "spiral"
Just one of the serious problems that occurs when a firm like Google
tells its employees to "expect more layoffs", is that it creates a
"doomsday" atmosphere where employees quite understandably start
polishing up their CVs and actively looking for alternatives.
Even when layoff "benefits" are relatively generous, leaving for a new
job on your own timing rather than being laid off based on the
company's timing is an important consideration.
A "layoffs are the solution" mindset among executives creates a
proverbial "brain drain" spiral downwards that is destructive for both
the firm and ultimately for everybody who depends on the firm for
services. -L
