"Specta" vs. DJI
Watching with some amusement the controversy over a "Specta Air Drone"
that appears to be identical in virtually every respect to the DJI Air
3 -- including firmware and manuals (but apparently without the
support options that DJI normally offers). Just branding changes and
tiny other details that vary very slightly. (I don't get to say "vary
very" very often.)
The observation that appears most likely is that this is a so-called
"white label" version of the drone, relabeled to avoid DJI branding.
There is speculation that Specta is to avoid the specter (see what I
did there?) of a relatively unlikely broad U.S. ban against DJI at the
ordinary consumer level. This doesn't make much sense though, given
that the two drones appear identical and wouldn't fool regulators, and
unconfirmed rumors have it that they are hitting the same DJI CDN for
firmware updates, etc.
Get plenty of popcorn for this one. -L
