Trump and TikTok
Now watch what happens. Trump originally was in favor of a TikTok ban.
Then he spoke to a big TikTok investor and reversed. Meanwhile, both
Republicans and Democrats in Congress are pushing for the ban, which I
believe Biden said he will sign. Trump knows how to read a room, and
will use that as an opportunity to say he doesn't want millions of
TikTok users to be cut off, and position himself as the friend to all
of them. The probability of courts blocking such a ban on First
Amendment grounds is fairly high, and in my view such a ban is dead
wrong. But in the end, this will probably end up helping Trump. The
technological sophistication of many politicians is such that they'd
be unable to change a light bulb quickly without assistance. At least
it sure seems that way, in both parties. -L
