Current status of Gaetz nomination for AG (my summary)
While there are some observers who feel he will ultimately be confirmed,
and this is certainly possible, the broader sense is that there are
*currently* between 12 and as high as perhaps as 30 GOP votes against
him in the Senate. The GOP can only afford to lose 3, assuming all
Democrats votes against him. There is also word that many GOP senators
are upset (the actual word being used is "pissed") that Trump put them
in this position, and they are not disposed to adjoin to permit recess
appointments (for Gaetz and perhaps various other nominees).Trump could
in theory force the Senate out of session to enable recess appointments,
but this would trigger an immediate Constitutional crisis.
It should be remembered that even if Gaetz withdraws (no pun intended
even given the investigation against him), Trump has a deep bench of
nearly as awful toadies to choose from.
So far, the Trump the level of "quality" and "competency" being shown by
Trump's cabinet selections looks more like KAOS than THRUSH, not to
mention SPECTRE. Google them if you don't know the TV/film references!
