Don't be fooled by AT&T's "AT&T Phone - Advanced" -- it's a trap!

Just a quick note that AT&T is sending out emails and other
promotional material trying to convince California customers to switch
their landlines to "AT&T Phone Advanced" at a supposedly somewhat
lower price (since it includes unlimited long distance like typical
mobile service) than the high price that their landlines typically
cost now.

This is nothing but a cellular to landline phone equipment box, with
your landline phone number ported over to it. Essentially, this is
exactly the same thing as that Consumer Cellular promotion I mentioned
very recently.

As AT&T continues their push through the California Public Utilities
Commission to end their landline responsibilities, it is to be
expected that these kinds of trick mailings will increase -- the one I
saw doesn't even seem to mention anywhere that it's an unreliable
cellular connection -- just pushes the fact that it's supposedly
somewhat cheaper than a landline if the cost of AT&T long distance
services are factored in.

Warn your friends and family not to be fooled by this new AT&T
promotional trick.
