.) Fixes statically linking against libpq (There is no libcrypt on osx)
that's correct -- and has been annoying in the past!
just fyi, a workaround is a symlink, specifically:
/usr/local/lib/libcrypt.dylib -> /System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/System
