This particular part seems to lack styles which can easily be 
configured... sorry about that. In principle, adjusting the 'segment 
length' key should do the job, but unfortunately, the discontinuity code 
overrides 'segment key' explicitly.

I am rarely at home this week, so I might not be able to investigate 
this problem. I accept it as bug report (or feature request, whatever).

The axis discontinuities are implemented by means of tikz "decorations". 
Perhaps the decoration module of tikz has something like 'every 
decoration' or so... a work-around might not easily be possible.

If you need an approach immediately, I would encourage you to post your 
request on tex.stackexchange.com -- there are a lot of very competent 
guys who might come up with a solution (or work-around) before I even 
have time to look into it.
