BTW, wouldn't be possible to delegate date time data handling to
gnuplot? AFAICS, it is not so bad for this task: as said p. 19 of
http://www.gnuplot.info/docs_4.6/gnuplot.pdf, "Gnuplot now
tracks time to millisecond precision" ;)
