I don't know what to make of the below info, some sort of db curruption
probably. Do you have a backup? from pg_dump or pg_dumpall?
As I understand it, to even upgrade from that far back will requier seveal
intermediate upgrades, as the dump format change allong the way.
That's probably not much help, but not being there that's about it.
