Configuration:
Compaq DeskPro, 450MHz Pentium II, 256MB RAM,
    hda: WDC AC310000R, 9541MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=20678/15/63, UDMA
    hdc: Maxtor 90680D4, 6485MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=13176/16/63, UDMA
Slackware 3.6 installation, Linux kernel 2.0.36
    PostgreSQL 6.4.2

I am in process of doing a pg_dumpall to enable an upgrade to the latest
6.5 snapshot. For reference, I did a tar of my data directory prior to
starting the dump. The tar file ended up just over 1GB. The largest DB
resides on the Maxtor drive and the db.out file is on thw Western
Digital.

The issue:
Performance appears to be lousy. The dump is writing about 9-10K per
second to the db.out file. I have spent a good portion of the morning
trying to find Linux sites dealing with performance issues, I/O
configuration recommendations, etc. So far, no luck.

Any suggestions?
