[ADMIN] config question

when I try to run postgreSQL I get this error:

cannot find or mis-configured pg_hda.conf
any ideas?  I installed it off of a Mandrake 6.0 installation that came
with Apache w/ PHP3 built in so I hate to have to uninstall again.
