I don't want to use PostgreSQL "the Unix way" on Windows and so I did not install the Cygwin and tried to compile using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0.
Do you have any idea of what could be the problem?
You just mentioned it.

Urgent:
* Create native Win32 port [win32]
^^^^^^Alternatives:
1. Use Unix. Some are free.
2. Use cygwin. It's free.
3. Use PowerGres (non-free) http://osb.sra.co.jp/PowerGres/index-en.php
4. Wait for and then help the developers test the native Win32 port.
