For Immediate Release

POSTGRESQL, INC. AND NO STARCH PRESS, INC. TO PUBLISH NEW POSTGRES BOOK

April 17, 2002--PostgreSQL, Inc. and No Starch Press, Inc. today announced their
agreement to publish an introductory PostgreSQL book for database programmers.
POSTGRESQL: AN INTRODUCTION TO SOFTWARE ENGINEERING will be released in the fall of
2002.

PostgreSQL, Inc. (http://www.pgsql.com), founded in 1999, seeks to promote the
continuous growth in use, application development, training and certification programs
for PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL, a sophisticated Object-Relational DBMS, supports almost
all SQL constructs, including subselects, transactions, and user-defined types and
functions. It is the most advanced open source database available anywhere.

No Starch Press, Inc. (http://www.nostarch.com), founded in 1994, publishes high
quality computer books on open source, alternative operating systems, programming, and
other critical topics. No Starch Press titles are distributed worldwide, and are
translated into many different languages.

According to Bill Pollock, President of No Starch Press, Inc., "We do our part as a
publisher to support open source by delivering high quality books that help people to
use important open source tools, like PostgreSQL. This book will be the essential
reference for any serious PostgreSQL user."

Geoff Davidson, CEO at PostgreSQL, Inc. is very excited about publishing this new
book. "There is a great demand for reference materials on building PostgreSQL
databases, and this book will provide practical examples for novice and expert alike.
In addition to the basics of programming in PostgreSQL, this book will also cover some
advanced database design and development including our commercially successful
replication server (eRServer)."

The book will also serve as the textbook for the 'PostgreSQL Certified Software
Engineer' (PgSCE) program for database designers and programmers, offered this fall at
Toronto's Centennial College and online through AdaptiveTutoring.com and PostgreSQL,
Inc.

According to Bruce Miner of Adaptive Tutoring, "PostgreSQL is the most advanced open
source database available today. It is a key component in our acclaimed online
learning programs, and a critical factor in many of the recent successes our team of
programmers and developers have delivered across several industries. This book will
help to train and prepare a new generation of application developers competent and
capable of creating new and better information management solutions, in a job market
that has an increasing demand for qualified PostgreSQL designers and developers."

POSTGRESQL: AN INTRODUCTION TO SOFTWARE ENGINEERING is the first in a series of books
and Certification programs supporting training and development of highly qualified and
competent database developers. Forthcoming titles and programs will cover Specialized
Certification for PostgreSQL Systems Administrators (PgCSA) and PostgreSQL Database
Architects (PgCDBA).
