feature code for the run-from-source facility requested by some, especially Jim
Nasby.
The code is still experimental, but I'm committing it so it doesn't bitrot. It
incorpotates
with editing a patch Jim sent me, and a fix for the "delete pgsql dir" problem
he complained
about.
