Hi,
Somewhat late in the project exploration phase, I'd like to express my
interest in the GSoD initiative. I'm currently employed at Postgres
Professional as a full-time tech writer, and I see it as a good
opportunity to get more involved with the PostgreSQL community.
Judging by the scope of suggested projects and several threads in
pgsql-docs, a better getting started experience is wanted by many. As I
lack technical background, this was (and still is) a major roadblock for
me to get deeper understanding of PostgreSQL. I yet have to compose the
actual proposal, but I think we should take into account the following
threads:
* Craig Ringer. Updating the intro for packages - improve usability,
reduce new user confusion

* Lætitia Avrot. Tutorial section of documentation: enhancements
needed

Another option would be improving the full-text search chapter, which is
currently not on the project list, but looks like it can be expanded
with advanced full-text search configuration opportunities.
