FWIW... I can build 'make postgres-A4.pdf' against cvs without problem. So I tried just now to build 'make postgres-A4.pdf' against alpha5, and it succeeded. I attach my texmf.cnf, although I can't remember what I changed (if anything), but I do remember getting that 'number of strings' error as well (2 weeks or so ago). hth Erik Rijkers
