Correction, this is Ubuntu, not Debian.  11.10 if it's of any consequence.

The file system is ext4 with
rw,noatime,nodiratime,errors=remount-ro,commit=0 on a Crucial m4 SSD.

ecryptfs is in use in the parent directory.
