Oh?  I read in hba.c

    if (getsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_PEERCRED, &peercred, &so_len) != 0 ||

    {

    }

    pass = getpwuid(peercred.uid);

so it sure looks like we *are* using getpwuid.
