I think it would make sense to call out that we're greasing the protocol with the the beta[1]. Probably in the "Testing for Bugs & Compatibility" section. Something like this: During the beta period libpq will request non-existing versions of the postgres protocol to allow us to bump the default protocol version in the future, see [this wiki page for details](https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Grease).
