Well, as I've said, I'm okay with AS, though it's not my favorite. I can see the argument that it's more likely to eventually make it into the SQL standard. I don't suppose that the position of the label and the value on either side of "AS" could be reversible, could it?

  SELECT foo( bar AS 'ick', 6 AS baz );

Probably not, I'm thinking…
