I am not sure if SQL standard is good inspiration in this case. Does SQL standard typmod less varchar or numeric? Does SQL standard polymorphic types? Maybe only one should be in standard. Reply to question "should exists functions foo(varchar(3)) and foo(varchar(10)) in same time?
