The list of suggestions at http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Developer_FAQ and http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Submitting_a_Patch are what we've got now. There's a number of us who try to record any interesting discussion bits like this one into one of those, to shorten the future learning curve for others.
