Odd.. I could have sworn I saw a difference in the query generated, but perhaps I just assumed it was reordered, since it ends up ordered differently in the actual plans: 8.2: http://explain.depesz.com/s/449 9.1: http://explain.depesz.com/s/03O Increasing the cost of pg_table_is_visible() caused it to move that test to the end again (under 9.1), which improved the performance (though I'm sure having a usable index would help a great deal more..).
