Is there a way to add the current transaction nesting level in the be/fe protocol without breaking compatibility? AFAICS the ReadyForQuery message is not expansible (sp?) :-(
Perhaps you could treat the nesting level as a runtime parameter and generate a ParameterStatus message whenever it changes? (and "SHOW nesting_level" sounds useful anyway)
