Yeah, just ask the Perl folks.  I believe that CPAN took about 4 years
to get working.


They were kinda blazing a trail.

I don't think Ruby Gems took anything like that long to flesh out.

I agree with most of what Martijn said elsewhere. We shouldn't try to overengineer something like this.
