Alexander,
You have to set the encoding when you make the connection.
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("user",user);
props.put("password",password);
props.put("charSet",encoding);
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,props);
where encoding is the proper encoding for your database
