[SQL] Can CREATE TYPE be used to create a synonym?

Eg:

CREATE TYPE DATETIME AS (dummy TIMESTAMP);
I suspect not (syntax issues w/ input, output, etc).  Is there an 
alternate way to declare a type synonym?
